Spring Social at Other Brother Beer Co.
Join us for our Spring Social community event at Other Brother Beer Co. on May 17th!
Our friends at Other Brother Beer Co. will be donating 1 dollar from every pint sold all day to Sunflower Star Laboratory to support our sunflower star research and conservation efforts.
From 10AM to 4pM, local artists Cady DeLay, Cody Lee, Andrea Dingeldein (The Local Naturalist), Nick Ta (Reef Renders) and Celine de Jong will be tabling for an onsite marine-themed artist market, with a portion of all sales being donated to SSL!
We’ll also be hosting the Monterey Bay premiere of Shoot For the Stars at 6:00PM, and having a Q&A with our starteam after the 20 minute film.
Film Description: In 2025, Filmmaker Adam Ernster spent nearly a year documenting the community-based origins and groundbreaking research and restoration work of Sunflower Star Laboratory. The resulting film tells the story of California’s kelp forest crisis, and the group of concerned community members taking action to restore the sunflower star and save our redwoods of the sea.

Discussion of climate change and impacts on the marine environment often miss a critical part of the story: the actions being taken to protect this incredibly intricate ecosystem. Guests at this roundtable provide a first-hand view of what's happening under the surface of California's coastal waters, and the intervention that is underway, aided by hundreds of humans drawn together by kelp, starfish, necessity, and imagination.
Join us for perspective on the collapse of California’s kelp forest, a resulting explosion in the sea urchin population, and (simultaneously) a die-off of sea stars, aka starfish. There are many ramifications of this crisis, and also ways to reverse or ease it. Our panelists:
